Accessibility status of digital service
OP Corporate Bank Latvian branch’s website meets the accessibility requirements in part. Non-compliance with requirements and the applicable exemptions are listed below. The content mainly consists of functions that can also be accessed by assistive technologies.
Inaccessible content
There are accessibility deficiencies in the OP Corporate Bank Latvian branch’s website from the criteria of the WCAG 2.2 level AA guidelines as follows:
WCAG 2.4.5, multiple ways (Finding information)
- The only way to find information on the site is through the navigation. As different users have different needs for finding information, this may cause difficulties for some users.
WCAG 4.1.2, 2.4.6, 3.1.2, 1.3.1, general accessibility (Sub-navigation)
- The navigation is a simple list of links, with no role or label. This makes it hard for screen reader users to realize what its purpose is.
- The label of the arrowhead button is in Finnish: “Näytä enemmän”, and non-Finnish speaking screen reader users might not understand it (“Show more”). Furthermore, its label remains the same regardless of whether the submenu is expanded or not, and there’s also no other method of telling the state of the submenu.
- The current page is highlighted visually but not programmatically.
WCAG 2.4.6, 3.1.2, headings and labels, language of parts (Breadcrumb trail)
- The programmatic label of the breadcrumb trail is in Finnish: “Murupolku”. Non-Finnish speaking screen reader users might not understand it.
WCAG 1.3.1, info and relationships (Header)
- There is no header element. Instead, everything in the header is located inside a nav element, which is misleading for screen reader users: only the three actual navigation menu links should be places inside a nav element.
WCAG 1.3.1, info and relationships (Main navigation)
- The navigation is a list (ul element). The Login and language selection buttons are also included in this, even though they are not logically part of the navigation menu.
- The navigation menu is not marked up with a nav element (other than the one that contains the whole header area). It’s hard for screen reader users to understand what constitutes the main navigation of the site.
- When the user is on the main page of a section (e.g. About us), the menu item is marked up with aria-current=“true” instead of aria-current=“page”.
- When the user is on a sub-page of a section (e.g. About us > Sustainability), the menu item is programmatically marked up incorrectly with aria-current=“false”.
WCAG 3.2.4, consistent identification (External links)
External links are identified inconsistently in their accessible names:
- “Opens in a new window in another service.” (e.g. most links in the footer).
- “You’re leaving for another web service, opens in a new window.” (e.g. the fi and LinkedIn links in the footer, the here link under Ensure that your connection is secure… on the Secure online transactions page).
WCAG 3.2.3, consistent navigation (News)
- There is no bread crumb trail on the News It is found on all other pages (except the home page).
WCAG 1.3.1, general accessibility (Programmatic structure)
The programmatic structure of the page doesn’t always match the visual presentation:
- Headings are not always implemented with programmatic heading elements. Some are only implemented using text styling, others with programmatic lists of a single item, and yet others not even visually. This makes figuring out the structure of the content very hard for screen reader users.
- Some numbered lists are not implemented with programmatic list elements. Because of this, screen reader users don’t know how many items the lists have and when they begin and end.
WCAG 4.1.2, 1.3.1, 2.5.3, general accessibility (Mobile navigation)
- The arrowhead buttons have aria-haspopup attributes, but the elements that they control lack the required role. Also, this attribute is somewhat misleading, as the submenu is an expandable area – not a popup.
- The current branch and the current page are marked up visually but not programmatically.
